Faces&PlacesOctober 2003Following a four-month search, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce has chosen Duane Marsh of Midland, Mich., as its new president. Marsh succeeds Christopher Barbieri, who is relocating to Shanghai to be the chamber's international trade liaison. A party honoring Barbieri was held Friday, Sept. 19. Marsh, who holds a master of business administration from Central Michigan University, was president of the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce from for six years. Midland is an 850-member chamber with 10 employees and an annual budget of $850,000. Marsh has more than 20 years' experience in chamber management in Michigan and Indiana. The chamber's chairman, Carl Spangler, described Marsh as "an articulate, dynamic leader with a lot of depth in managing chambers of commerce." This depth, said Spangler, includes the areas of staff development, membership growth and lobbying. Interstate Refrigerant Recovery Inc., a provider of CFC recovery and recycling services in Southern New England and New York, has begun serving customers in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont from its headquarters in Foxboro, Mass. Jamie Domaingue joined PayData Payroll Services Inc. as Vermont regional sales representative. She was with Advantage Payroll Services and Paychex Inc. Jack Tenney, publisher of Business People Vermont, announced the appointment of Art Goodman as advertising representative. Goodman was a marketing representative and in sales management for Unifirst Corp. for 16 years and was most recently a sales consultant for Vermont Specialty Products in Hinesburg. Cece Wick was named communications manager for the Regional Technical Academy Initiative at the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce. A former chamber board member, Wick was Northeast regional manager at WPTZ-TV and an executive recruiter with MRI Inc. Westaff of Burlington announced the appointment of Nicole Clements as business development executive. Clements was with Hall Communications and The Burlington Free Press. Coffee Enterprises appointed Michael Page vice president of sales for the company's Extract and Ingredients Division throughout the United States. Page was with New England Coffee Co. for 19 years. Heather Atwell, a veteran ski instructor and formerly director of undergraduate admissions at Castleton College, was named program and public affairs manager for Ski Vermont. Colin Bloch was promoted to director of the NeighborWorks Homeownership Center of Vermont Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties, a program of the Burlington Community Land Trust. R.W. Moulton III has become a shareholder, director and officer of the Burlington law firm Merritt & Merritt, lawyers for emerging growth companies. Moulton joined the firm in 2000. Northfield Savings Bank appointed Suzanne Grenier business development officer. The McGill University graduate has banking experience in the United States and Canada, most recently with KeyBank of Vermont. St. Michael's College named Michael A. Maine of Winooski director of international marketing and enrollment. He was manager of enrollment and admissions at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich. Mark C. Tarnacki, reporter and news editor for The Brattleboro Reformer from 1982 to 1996, was named staff writer for the college's office of public relations and communications. He most recently taught seventh- and eighth-grade English at Main Street Middle School in Montpelier. Steve Pouliot, executive director for the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, announced the hiring of Michelle Mason and Jodi Botte as itinerant teachers of the visually impaired. Working from the Montpelier office, Mason covers parts of Washington and Windsor counties and all of Orange county. Botte's territory includes parts of Washington County and most of the Northeast Kingdom. Vermont Energy Investment Corpo. announced the following new. Sarah Smith was named residential services coordinator in Residential Energy Services. Daniel Tuhus-Dubrow joined the organization as associate project manager in Business Energy Services. Pam Trieb was named residential services coordinator for the Residential New Construction and Targeted High Use program. Arun Veda was hired as project manager in Business Energy Services. Bill Bowman was named business development specialist in Residential Markets. The following people moved into new positions with VEIC. Gillian Eaton is now market coordinator in Business Energy Services. Bethany Gorman was named data management assistant in the Information Technology Department. Maria Kinville was promoted to associate project manager for Business Energy Services. Bilodeau Wells & Co., P.C., Certified Public Accountants in Essex Junction, announced the addition of Donald Turner to its staff. Turner has many years' experience in private industry. John Hunt, executive vice president of Coburn & Feeley Property Management of Burlington, announced that Sandra Rose was named assistant property at Cedars Senior Living Community in Queensbury, N.Y., for which Coburn & Feeley is property manager. Jack Bliss, president and CEO of Corporate Outfitters in St. Albans, announced the appointment of Steven Salls to the position of vice president marketing and sales. A former employee, Salls returns to the company after working for Johnson Woolen Mills. Burlington Broadcasters, owners of 106.7 WIZN and operators of 99.9 the Buzz, announced the addition of Mark Pratico as radio sales specialist. He was at Westaff. Edward F. Peltier of West Hartford, Conn., was named president of the Vermont Center for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Inc. He was with the Kentucky School for the Deaf. Stephen Irish was promoted to partner at New York Life. The following individuals were named agents for the company's Vermont general office: Jill Baillargeon, Ronald Gruber, Robin Vaughan, Justin Audet, P.J. Pheifenberger and Richard Higgins. Sally Fox was named public policy coordinator for Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility. She served as a state representative for 14 years and was most recently director of operations for the Vermont Family Court system. · Mathew Sorensen, APRN-BC, joined Northwestern Counseling & Support Services in St. Albans as an advanced practice registered nurse, board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He was in private practice. Wachovia Securities has promoted Randall J. Schievella to assistant branch office manager. He will continue to serve as financial adviser in the Colchester office. Laura B. Lyle was hired as staff accountant for the Vermont Mutual Group in Montpelier. A CPA, Lyle was with Gratiot Health System of Alma, Mich. Banknorth Vermont announced that John Weixel will head the regional commercial lending team for the Bennington/Manchester area. He was with Granite Bank in Barre. The bank announced several corporate title changes and staff promotions. Named officers were Robynn Albert, Sarah Guilmette and Ben Sawyer. Named assistant vice president were Larry Baxter, Adam Blake, Kathy Frazier, Sheila Ginter, Lura Greene, Melinda Higbee, Chris Johnson, George Patch, Laurie Reilly, William Root and Terri Whelan. Named vice president were Denise Cincotta, Margaret Eddy and Susan Paris. The Family Business Initiative, a program in the University of Vermont school of business since 1998, announced changes to its name and leadership. The initiative is now the Vermont Family Business Initiative. Daniel Van Der Vliet was named director of the initiative. He was outreach coordinator for UVM Continuing Education in central Vermont. · |
