Faces&PlacesJuly 2003Lang Associates announced the addition of Eileen S. Townsend to its sales team. Townsend was director of marketing and communications for St. Michael's College. The Moorings Inc. marina of Malletts Bay in Colchester announced the hiring of Sean Gowland as operations manager, and named Christian Downing, who has been with the marina since 1997, yard manager. Jager Di Paola Kemp Design has hired Chris DaBica as copywriter and Karen Merriam as production manager. DaBica was a free-lance copywriter; Merriam was marketing production coordinator with Burton Snowboards. Linda Letourneau of Redstone was the listing and leasing broker of 1,340 square feet of professional office space at Harborview Professional Building in Colchester to the law offices of Luis Garcia. Elizabeth Dilley of Redstone represented Wright & Morrissey Inc. in the leasing of 3,675 square feet at 60 Farrell St., South Burlington, to Medical Business Administration Inc., d.b.a. MBA Resources, which moved from Burlington. Linda Letourneau of Redstone represented MBA. Century 21 Jack Associates has moved its Waterbury office to 21 North Main St., the former Coldwell Banker Home Field Real Estate location. Coldwell Banker Home Field Real Estate is at 35 S. Main St. in Stowe. The two companies are subsidiaries of Cendant Corp. Valerie Zimmerman (left) owns Coldwell Banker Home Field; Jack Russell and his wife, Lynn Russell, own Century 21 Jack Associates. Brad Broadwell was hired to serve in the dual role of state director of international trade and investment and executive director for the Vermont World Trade Office Inc. Broadwell was with the U.S. Department of Commerce, served as a member of President Bush's Trade Promotion Coordinating Committee, and was chief of staff to the deputy secretary of commerce. David G. Rahr, CEO and president of The Vermont Community Foundation, is retiring after 16 years at the helm of the organization he helped found. He was named VCF's first executive director in early 1987, when the foundation opened its Middlebury offices. The foundation's financial assets have grown to nearly $70 million, and grants distributed by the organization have increased from $60,000 the first year to nearly $8 million in 2001. The staff has grown to 16 full- and part-time employees. "We are deeply grateful for David's enterprising leadership," said Richard C. White, chairman of the VCF board and president of the Community National Bank in Derby. "In the VCF, David Rahr has established a vibrant and effective organization that is having a deep, tangible impact on Vermont and will do so for countless generations to come." After a six-month nationwide search, the board elected Brian T. Byrnes as the foundation's next president, effective July 1. He was deputy executive director of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. Christopher Fogg was named vice president of travel and tourism for the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. He was director of marketing for the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce. Fogg replaces Sue Kruthers, who was named vice president of government affairs. Bond Auto Parts Inc. has relocated its St. Johnsbury store to 590 Memorial Drive, next to Aubuchon Hardware. Scott Baldwin is now vice president and equity owner of Essex Agency Life Corp., d.b.a. Vermont Brokerage Services. He has been a benefits broker with the firm since 1996. Michelle Zimmerman joined Marketing Partners Inc. as public relations associate. She was a reporter for a newspaper in East Hampton, N.Y. The Vermont Commission on Women named Wendy Love executive director. She was president and CEO of a Planned Parenthood office in rural upstate New York. Tim Rollings was named president and CEO of the Greater Burlington YMCA. He held a similar position with the Lebanon Valley Family YMCA in Pennsylvania. The Burlington architectural firm Freeman French Freeman announced the hiring of Jonas Schaefer. Formerly with LineSync Architecture in Wilmington, Schaefer will focus on the firm's Burlington International Airport projects. The Champlain Valley Exposition named Lyn Jarvis superintendent of the culinary department for the Champlain Valley Fair. Jarvis was with WCAX-TV and has been a food judge for various events in the state. New England Financial announced the appointment of Glenn Steinman, Adam Nilson and Bill Allen as financial representatives. Steinman was with Vermont Public Radio. Nilson is co-owner of Colchester Paintball. Trapp Family Lodge hired John Abrams as conference sales manager and promoted Lana Ryder to conference services manager. Abrams was assistant controller at Springer-Miller Systems. Ryder was wedding coordinator. Pioneer Environmental Associates LLC, a scientific consulting firm, moved its main office from Middlebury to Vergennes, at the site of the former Hannah's Market, which was purchased by the firm's principal and hydrogeologist, Jeff Nelson. In July, the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union will take occupancy of the leased portion of the space. Steve Pouliot, executive director of the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, announced that Sharon Coquillette joined the staff as itinerant teacher of the visually impaired for northeastern Vermont. She is in the Montpelier office. Brendan Kinney was named director of advancement services and the St. Michael's Fund at St. Michael's College. He was the college's assistant director for special gifts. Robert Landry joined the staff of ECHO at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain as gift shop/admissions desk manager. He was with Smugglers' Notch Resort and Champlain Oil Co. ECHO also announced a partnership with NBC affiliate WPTZ NewsChannel 5 and the Lake Champlain Basin Program, through which the television station's Chief Meteorologist Tom Messner will be the center's official meteorologist. ReCycle North announced the following staff changes at its Building Material Center: Chuck Sturtevant was named assistant manager; Mark Dabelstein was hired as a value-added specialist. Sturtevant was with a Washington, D.C., nonprofit; Dabelstein owns Palletart.com, which focuses on making household items from reclaimed materials. Vermont Development Credit Union relocated its mortgage division to 101 Main St., Suite 200, Burlington. The credit union's main office is at 18 Pearl St. The Inn at Shelburne Farms announced the appointment of Geoffrey Mockbee as head chef. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Mockbee worked at Four Seasons in Philadelphia and at several restaurants in San Francisco and Berkeley, Calif. The McKernon Group, with offices in Brandon and in Glens Falls, N.Y., hired Pam Swatkins as project manager. She has worked at firms in Vergennes, New Haven, Middlebury and Shelburne. NL Capital Management appointed Judith W. O'Connell to senior vice president, working with the firm's institutional and private clients. She was with Dresdner RCM Capital Management in San Francisco. David M. O'Neal was hired as analyst. The board of directors of the Community of Vermont Elders announced the appointment of Timothy J. Palmer as executive director. He succeeds Harriet G. Goodwin, who is retiring. Palmer was executive director of Vermont CARES. Deborah Barnum, owner of Bygone Books, has closed the retail shop at 35 Main St. in Burlington. The store of used and collectible books will be available on the Internet and in a booth at a Whistle Stop Antiques, 208 Flynn Ave., Burlington. Leading the PDI team are Peter Kriff, creative director, and Terri Parent, art director. Rich Maggiani, the firm's founder, is president. John D. Reilly, P.E., joined the consulting engineering firm of Forcier Aldrich & Associates Inc. as a water/wastewater designer. Vermont Energy Investment Corp. announced the following staff appointments and promotions. Toben Galvin is an energy analyst in the Consulting Group. He was an economist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Maryland. Bill Kallock is a senior project manager in the Consulting Group. He was with NativeEnergy. Alison Donovan Hollingsworth is a project manager for the Business Energy Services program. She was with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation. Darrell Marley was promoted to senior project manager in Business Energy Services Group. Sara Holloway was named human resources director. Louise Andrews was promoted to the position of human resources coordinator. FiberMark of Brattleboro, a producer of specialty fiber-based materials, announced the appointment of Allan Kline as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Bruce Moore, who held that position, has turned his focus to strategic and operational projects for the company. |
