Malzac Building Co. of Bristol has been renamed Malzac Window Replacement Co. Jack Malzac announced the company’s new name and business focus of residential window replacement using Marvin windows and doors, citing an increase in demand for this service. Malzac has been in the construction business for more than 30 years and serves the Addison County region.

Shon DiGuglielmo, DDS, has joined Timberlane Dental Group as a pediatric specialist. DiGuglielmo earned his doctoral degree in dental surgery from Columbia University and a certificate in pediatric dentistry with a concentration in oral/IV sedation from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Theron Main, DDS, joined Timberlane as a pediatric specialist. He holds a doctoral degree in dental surgery with a concentration in pediatric dentistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and received advanced training in pediatric dentistry at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

B. Randy Haas joined Ledyard Financial Advisors, a division of Ledyard National Bank, as vice president and portfolio manager. Ledyard, a New Hampshire firm, has a Vermont office in Norwich.

John Henning has been named general manager for Lewis Motors Inc.  He held a similar position with Courtesy Toyota/Scion and Twin City Subaru in Berlin for the last 18 years. Lewis is the exclusive, authorized dealer for the Acura, Audi, and Volkswagen brands.

Thomas H. MacLeay announced that he will retire by year’s end as president and chief executive officer of National Life Group. MacLeay will remain chairman of the board of the financial services company. A Vermont native who has worked at National Life for 32 years, MacLeay has served as president for 11 years and CEO and chairman for six.

Scott Hadley, CLU, ChFC, announced that Jim Heldman joined Hadley Financial Group as an associate. Heldman has been an agent with New York Life since 2001 and is a registered representative for NYLIFE Securities LLC.

Stu Bohm was promoted to operations manager at Husky Injection Molding Systems in Milton. Bohm has been with Husky since 2004. Rich Desouza was promoted to materials manager. He joined Husky in 1994 in Bolton, Ontario, and transferred to Milton in 1998.

Freeman French Freeman announced that Evan Champagne, a 2008 graduate of Syracuse University School of Architecture, joined the firm as intern architect. Champagne participated in the 2008 South Street Seaport Design Competition, and has eight years’ experience in commercial and residential construction.

Glenn Sautter, the owner of The Men’s Room on Main Street in Burlington, announced the addition of a stylist specializing in women’s hair. Rick Campeau is the salon’s first stylist to focus exclusively on women. He has 25 years’ experience, having worked in Florida and Rutland, where he has a strong following.

James R. Milne MD retired from Associates in Pediatrics in Berlin after 31 years as a pediatrician in central Vermont. He was the medical director at the Central Vermont Physician Practice Corp.

The University of Vermont College of Medicine announced the appointment of Brian L. Cote as senior associate dean for finance and administration. Cote, who joined UVM in 1986, has served as associate dean since January 2007. 

Jim Sullivan, president and CEO of Co-operative Insurance Companies, announced the hiring of Eric Rhoades as claims manager and Bradley Fortier as director of marketing operations. Hired to a newly created position in information services, Jeff Simmons was named Web applications developer. Rhoades’ experience includes 11 years with Progressive Insurance in Colchester and two years with AAA Northern New England. Fortier spent 26 years in the insurance industry most recently as director of marketing at Vermont Mutual Insurance Group. Simmons was with Computer Sciences Corp. for 10 years as a senior programmer analyst.

Bill Young, executive director of Maple Leaf Farm, a residential substance abuse treatment center, announced the promotion of David Rosen RN to director of primary care. Rosen joined the staff in January 2007.

Guy W. Graham, assistant vice president of claims for Union Mutual Fire Insurance Co. and New England Guaranty Insurance Co. Inc., announced several promotions in the claims department of both companies. Debbe Squairs, auto claims supervisor, was named claims manager; Peter Heitmann is senior casualty supervisor; and David Walker is senior property supervisor. John Murnane, a general adjuster for the companies, was promoted to supervising general adjuster. Graham was named acting vice president of claims. John Fitzhugh, the former vice president of claims and general counsel, was promoted to chief executive officer of the companies following the retirement of Douglas J. Wacek.

The partners of Stone Environmental Inc. announced that Bruce Douglas joined the staff as vice president of the water resources management group. Douglas has 27 years’ experience in evaluating and mitigating environmental concerns from agriculture and urban activities. He ran his own environmental consulting and engineering firm specializing in integrated water resource management services.

Hampton Direct announced the hiring of Mary B. Wylde to a newly created position to oversee human resources. Wylde started her HR career at Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, where she became HR manager for 250 employees. In 2001, she started a consulting business that helps organizations build more effective teams and develop leadership talent. Laura Miller-Gibson joined the company as a new-business account executive. She has more than 20 years’ experience with regional and national accounts, most recently with Resolution Inc. 

Brian Knight, president of Country Business Inc., announced the promotion of John Stimets to vice president and director, making him a member of the regional management team. He will continue to be the affiliate manager in the Burlington office.

Nathan Rice joined Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs as entrepreneurial adviser. He provides management consulting services to a variety of clients. Rice has experience in Vermont’s public sector and in the services and banking industries. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont.

Cambium Group LLC announced the addition of Stephen Wilson and Rebecca Walsh to the firm. Wilson is the web developer/programmer. A graduate of New Hampshire Community Technical College, he was with a Manchester, N.H., firm. Walsh is the Web marketing assistant. Her background includes customer service, sales, training, and marketing. She is a graduate of Western New England College with a bachelor of arts in communications.

The Vermont Foodbank hired Chris Meehan as director of network partner services and programs. Meehan has worked in the nonprofit sector for 14 years and in anti-hunger programs for nearly 10 years. David Thurlow was named director of foundation and corporate support. He has worked on various nonprofit development efforts during his three years in Vermont, following a long career in museum-based and outdoor education, land conservation, and science journalism in northern New Hampshire.

Chittenden Bank announced the promotion of three employees to vice president. Christie Mitchell, mortgage loan originator in Burlington, has more than 15 years’ experience with the mortgage team and is a Certified Mortgage Professional. Richard Chapin, market manager of the Putney office, joined Chittenden in 1997 as financial service representative and was promoted to market manager in 2000. Dan Emanuele, private banking account manager in the Upper Valley area, has been with Chittenden since 1999. Three were promoted to assistant vice president. Mark Aridgides, Chittenden wealth management officer in Burlington, is a Certified Financial Planner who joined Chittenden in 2004 in the Chittenden Securities Inc. division. Barbara Yanke, mortgage loan originator in Burlington, a Certified Mortgage Professional, joined the mortgage team in 2001. Jack McSweeney, market manager at the Malletts Bay office in Colchester, has been with Chittenden since 1999. 

Matthew Cohen, the owner of Pinnacle Properties, a landscape installation and maintenance company, announced the hiring of Chad Ransom. Ransom has more than 10 years’ experience in masonry craftsmanship, allowing the company to add hardscape installations to its landscaping services.

Cynthia D. LaWare, secretary of the Vermont Agency of Human Services, announced the appointment of Wendy Sue Davis MD as Vermont’s commissioner of health. Davis will provide interim leadership as the agency conducts a national search for the position. A licensed pediatrician, Davis has been with the department since early 2007, when she became the director of the maternal and child health division. She is a professor of pediatrics at the UVM College of Medicine and a former lecturer and instructor in pediatrics at Yale University.

Union Bank announced that its executive vice president, Cynthia D. Borck, has retired. Borck had been with the bank since 1987. She was elected to the board of directors of Union Bankshares Inc. in 1995 and will continue as a director for that corporation and Union Bank. The bank also announced the hiring of Thomas J. Meshako as senior operations officer. He was senior vice president, financial planning and analysis at Chittenden Corp. 

Gene Johnson, the chief executive officer of FairPoint Communications, announced the appointment of Rick Preti as senior vice president of strategy and development. Preti joined the company in 2007. He has 25 years’ business experience in voice, data, online and wireless communications and computer network technology. Based in Portland, Maine, Preti will have responsibility for operations in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Vermont Tubbs announced the move of its production facility from Brandon to Whitefield, N.H. The 169-year-old American furniture manufacturer was acquired by BSF Transition LLC in June. BSF Transition is a wholly owned subsidiary of Brown Street Furniture in Whitefield. 

Propeller Media Works, a Web design and Internet marketing firm in Burlington, announced several new hires. Storm Tussey joined the account strategy team as project manager and i-marketing specialist. She has five years’ experience in interactive marketing working for Burton Snowboards, Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, and Freedom First Credit Union in Virginia. Eric Smith was named senior Web programmer. He was the IT manager at National Gardening Association in South Burlington. Robert Haverly joined the design team as interactive designer. His focuses include creative interface design, usability, and standards-based production. He was with Great Auk Wireless in Brattleboro.

Earth Turbines Inc., a manufacturer of home wind turbines, announced the addition of Caleb Elder to its customer service and support team. Elder was the director of the food program for the Center for Whole Communities. 

Darcy U. Carter was named director of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Vermont district office. Carter will oversee delivery of SBA programs in the state. Her public service career began in 1979 as a senior language analyst and area expert with the U.S. Department of Defense National Security Agency. She has worked for the Vermont District Office of SBA since 1991, most recently as deputy district director. 

Heather J. Ellis was named St. Michael’s College’s first sustainability coordinator. A 2007 graduate of the University of New Hampshire in environmental conservation, Ellis was the environmental center intern at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. 

Key Investment Services announced that Nathan T. La France was named investment adviser. La France was a branch manager for KeyBank. Before joining KeyBank in 2004, he was a branch manager for Peoples Bank. He is based at the bank’s Vermont district headquarters on Bank Street in Burlington.

Joseph M. Finnigan, president and chief executive officer of Vermont Federal Credit Union, announced his retirement, to be effective in March 2009. Finnigan will remain as treasurer of the board of directors. An active search is under way for his successor. Since joining VTFCU 30 years ago, Finnigan has worked to expand the credit union’s scope from an employee group organization serving U.S. government employees to its current community-based charter with six branches serving six counties in northern Vermont.

Liz Romano joined the team at hmc2 Advertising in Stowe. She was with Kelliher Samets Volk Advertising in Burlington Her experience includes six years at Fuse LLC in Burlington and a period as Vermont marketing manager for Red Bull North America.

Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility announced the hiring of Tara Pfeiffer-Norrell as intern program manager. She was an employment representative at the Vermont Association of Business, Industry and Rehabilitation (VABIR).

Larry Sudbay, president and chief executive officer of SymQuest Group Inc., announced that Nathan J. Pinkham was named information systems support specialist for the company. Pinkham was with GlobalNet Internet Services for six years in the wireless broadband division.

Robert D. Demont, president of Demont & Associates Inc., announced the addition of Lauren Geiger Moye to the management team as senior associate. Moye’s assignments with Demont include projects in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

Jim Barrett was promoted to inside service and sales manager at Husky Injection Molding Systems in Milton. Barrett joined Husky in 1997 and has held a variety of sales roles within the organization, most recently as business manager-global packaging tooling for the marketing team.

Fothergill Seale & Valley, Certified Public Accountants in Montpelier, announced the following advancements: Linda LaFrance and Lela McCaffrey were promoted to supervisor, and Sara Holub was promoted to senior accountant. LaFrance rejoined the firm in 1997 after pursuing family and other business interests McCaffrey has been with the firm since 2004. Holub joined the firm in 2003.

Daniel C. Cox, president of Coffee Enterprises, announced that Thomas Hodges was hired as sensory lab manager. Thomas will supervise the laboratory technicians, provide training to panel members and customers, and ensure compliance with Coffee Analysts’ protocols for sensory analysis. He has 19 years’ experience as a master roaster, barista, and cupper. •

The Vermont Youth Orchestra Association announced that Liza Reed was hired in the newly created position of development manager. Reed was development associate with the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger. Elizabeth LeBlanc was named operations assistant, a position that includes managing three ensembles: Vermont Young Strings, Presto, and Vermont Youth Chamber Winds. LeBlanc is a 1995 graduate of the VYO and holds degrees in music and orchestral training from The Juilliard School and McGill University.

Brian Jewell, president of Jewell Mortgage Corp., announced the hiring of two mortgage originators. Cynthia Champagne was a strategic account manager at Caleidoscope Communications Co. in Burlington. David Corliss was with Washington Mutual and First Horizon as loan officer and account executive. He is experienced in housing studies and homebuyer education.

Heather Paine and Casey Webster

Candle designer Heather Paine and jewelry designer Casey Webster announced the formation of Spirited Living Inc. to encompass their South Burlington store, Candles & Creations; Webster’s jewelry business, CW Creations; and Dragonfly Candles, Paine’s candle business. Fifty Vermont artisans and a growing number of wellness practitioners sell products and practice services at the store, located at 150 Dorset St. in the Blue Mall.

FiberMark, a Brattleboro producer of specialty papers for various applications, announced the opening of its Manhattan Design Center to showcase a library of the company’s textured and colored cover materials and the applications they have inspired. The center will serve as a collaborative location for designers to sample FiberMark materials and share ideas for integration into their projects. It is located in New York City’s Flatiron District at 20 W. 22nd St., Suite 703.

Ledyard National Bank announced that Bruce R. Stefany was hired as senior investment consultant and has joined Infinex Investments Inc. as a registered representative. Stefany will work with clients with investable assets of up to $500,000 and will collaborate with Dennis Mitchell in coordinating the services of Ledyard financial advisers for the over-$500,000 market. Ledyard has an office in Norwich and seven offices in New Hampshire.

The Greater Burlington YMCA announced the appointment of Nancy Cathcart to the newly created position of vice president for development and community relations. Cathcart has 30 years’ experience in fund development with dozens of local organizations, including Fletcher Allen Health Care, the former Trinity College of Vermont, and Vermont Public Television. She was the founder and director of the award-winning Champlain College Center for Service and Civic Engagement.
