Brian Leffler has been named president of Instrumart. He has worked with the company since 1989, first as an outside consultant before becoming a full-time employee in 1998. He was named senior vice president in 2011. He succeeds Bob Berman, who will remain CEO and board chair.

Money Care LLC announced that Joy Couture joined the company as assistant daily money manager. She has over 16 years of bookkeeping and office administration experience. She was with United Way of Lamoille County.

Courtney Bishop, CPA, joined Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs. She has 15 years’ experience in public accounting, most recently with a firm in Manchester. She will operate from the firm’s Rutland location. Jin Breault joined the firm as an associate accountant. Her experience includes bookkeeping and payroll for retail businesses in South Burlington and the greater Boston area. She will operate from the firm’s Williston location.

Taylor White joined Polli Properties at KW VT as an agent. The Vermont native joins a team headed by Elise Polli.

The Sara Holbrook Community Center announced that Lindsay Hennekey has joined its board of directors. Hennekey is marketing director at Members Advantage Community Credit Union.

Carol Audette and Steve Lipkin, Realtors at Coldwell Banker Hickok & Boardman Realty, announced that their teams have merged to make the top-selling real estate team in Vermont for number of properties sold and total sales volume. The newly formed Lipkin Audette Team combines the talents of 16 agents and support staff and will continue its affiliation with Coldwell Banker Hickok & Boardman Realty.

Dealer Policy appointed Mike Burgiss chief product officer, a newly created position. Burgiss has over 20 years of product, innovation, and management experience in the automotive and technology industries, including senior positions at Cox Automotive and Accenture.

Mark Chaffee, CMP, the former vice president of Mortgage Financial, announced that the company ceased operation as of January 1. Chaffee and his colleagues and staff have joined Draper & Kramer Mortgage Corp. and will continue to provide lending services. Business will continue as usual at the same location, 354 Mountain View Drive, Colchester.

United Way of Northwest Vermont hired Sarah Allerton as Working Bridges resource coordinator. Allerton’s experience includes nearly 20 years as a librarian, most recently in the Library Media Center of the St. Albans Town Educational Center.

The board of The Housing Foundation announced the appointment of Jonathan Bond as executive director. He was director of two statewide programs of the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity.

Jeffrey Moore, the owner and president of Quest Transportation, a freight logistics company in St. Johnsbury, was appointed to the boards of directors of Community Bancorp. and Community National Bank.

Seven Days hired three writers to join its editorial staff. Kevin McCallum, who joined the Statehouse bureau, shared in the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news as a City Hall reporter for the Press Democrat of Santa Rosa, California. Staff writer Derek Brouwer, an award-winning Montana journalist, was with the alternative weekly Missoula Independent in Montana, which closed in September. Chelsea Edgar, who works on the arts and culture desk, has been freelancing for Seven Days since September. She previously contributed to BuzzFeed and Philadelphia magazine.

The Vermont Association of Insurance Professionals announced that Tammy Lawrey was named the 2018 IAIP Member of the Year. Lawrey was nominated by her peers and co-workers.

Seven Days has hired Kate O’Neill as the designated writer of a yearlong reporting project, “Hooked: Stories and Solutions From Vermont’s Opioid Crisis.” O’Neill has personal experience with the crisis, and described the struggles of her sister, Madelyn Linsenmeir, in a heartbreaking obituary last year that spread quickly worldwide on social media. O’Neill worked as the paper’s lead proofreader from 2008 to 2012.

Liquid Measurement Systems announced that Gregory Maguire has joined the company in the newly created role of director of acquisitions and strategic initiatives. Maguire has more than 30 years of private and public sector experience, most recently as senior director of legal and government affairs for Revision Military.

Mobius, Vermont’s Mentoring Partnership has changed its name to MENTOR Vermont. The new name and logo are intended to more clearly express the mission of the organization.

The Village of Waterbury has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its wastewater treatment facility upgrade. It was among four in New England so recognized. The upgrade was to meet the phosphorus limits for Lake Champlain, which receives the discharge from the Winooski River.

Susan Evans McClure was named executive director of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. She was director of programs and audience development at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, and most recently was executive director at VSA Vermont.

Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility named state Rep. Tom Stevens of Waterbury the 2018 VBSR Legislator of the Year. As vice chair of the House Committee on General, Housing, and Military Affairs, he worked with VBSR and other organizations during the 2018 session to craft bills to improve the lives of working Vermonters and recognize the economic constraints of small businesses in Vermont.

The Vermont Community Foundation hired Sarah Waring as vice president for grants and community investments. She was executive director at the Center for an Agricultural Economy.

Krystyna Davenport Brown was named vice president for institutional advancement at St. Michael’s College. Brown has served as associate vice president for development since 2017, and has close to 20 years’ experience in the field.

Union Bank announced that Stacie Griffiths will be branch manager at its new Jericho branch at 368 Vt. Route 15, currently under construction. Griffiths has more than 18 years of banking experience and worked as a real estate legal assistant at Bauer, Gravel, Farnham LLP. She also runs All Phase Property Maintenance, a family business. Until the Jericho branch opens, Griffiths is working from the Morrisville main office.

The Vermont Brewers Association announced the hiring of Lauren Palmieri Mark as office manager. In the newly created position, Palmieri will oversee the daily operations of the office and provide support to the executive director and the festival and marketing manager. She was with a nonprofit in Florida.

Tom Bazzano of OneDigital Health and Benefits was promoted to benefits consultant. Bazzano has worked at the company since 2016 as a market analyst.

David Nichols was hired by Chuck’s Heating & Air Conditioning to serve as service operations manager in the commercial and residential service divisions. Nichols has 30 years’ experience in the industry, in upper management and as a self-employed consultant.

The Institute of Professional Practice appointed Bob Sheil of Montpelier to its board of directors. Before retiring in 2016, Sheil was the supervising attorney in the Office of the Juvenile Defender.

The Skinny Pancake is one of four organizations recognized with a Restaurant and Food Service Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s regional office for their work keeping wasted food out of landfills and incinerators and putting it to better use.

Vermont Custom Closets has changed its name to Inspired Closets. Inspired Closets is an industry-leading provider of custom home organization and storage solutions. The partnership expands Vermont Custom Closets’ existing home organization capabilities. The name change generated a newly designed showroom with added products and features for every area in the home.

Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports has named Norm Staunton director of technical operations and advancement and Felicia Fowler program director. Staunton has been a coach and volunteer instructor at the organization since 2008. Fowler takes the helm as program coordinator for winter sports at Mt. Ellen at Sugarbush and summer sports in the Waterbury/Montpelier area. She was a coach of the rowing teams at the University of New Hampshire.

C2 (Competitive Computing) announced that Jim Gandini joined its enterprise systems team. He has 25 years’ experience in information technology and was with Sharecare Inc. Michael Oak joined the eBusiness team. Oak has over 10 years’ experience in dev ops and implementation engineering roles. He was with GE Healthcare.

Hoyle, Tanner announced the promotions of David Langlais, P.E., and Jon Olin, P.E., to regional business manager. Langlais joined the firm in 2005 and has 18 years of diverse experience in construction engineering. Olin, who joined the firm in 2010, has more than 20 years of engineering experience.

Paul Frank + Collins announced that attorney Stephen D. Ellis joined the firm’s litigation and labor and employment teams, and Peter I. Dysart joined the firm as an associate on the insurance services and litigation teams. Ellis has an established record in complex civil trials and appeals before federal and state courts and in administrative agencies throughout Vermont and multiple other jurisdictions. Dysart joined the firm in 2015 as a law clerk before pursuing two clerkships and gaining litigation experience.

The Vermont State Ethics Commission named Larry Novins executive director. Novins’s background in state government and regulatory law includes serving as legal counsel for the Office of Professional Regulation for over 14 years and on the Professional Responsibility Board for nine years. He has also been a professor at Vermont Law School since 2002.

Money magazine has named Colchester “Best Place to Live in Vermont” for 2018, the second consecutive year to be so honored. The magazine considered communities with populations between 10,000 and 100,000, which were ranked on their economy, cost of living, diversity, education, income, housing, crime, amenities, and ease of living.

McSoley McCoy & Co. announced staff promotions to senior accountant. Courtney Larson, with the firm since 2016; Natalia Richards-Ulloa, who joined the firm in 2016; Dustin Storie, with the firm since 2016; and Jenna Waite, an intern before joining full-time in 2016.

The Center for Women & Enterprise Vermont announced the creation of its advisory board. Members appointed to the board are Alexandra Clauss, Primmer Piper Eggleston & Cramer PC; Jody R. Cole, People’s United Bank; Cairn G. Cross, FreshTracks Capital; Lisa Groeneveld, Logic Supply and Tolmee LLC; Christine Hammer, Hammer Consulting & Copywriting LLC; and Linda Kelliher, Kelliher Samets Volk.

Gov. Phil Scott and the Vermont Agency of Digital Services announced the hiring of Nicholas Andersen as the agency’s chief information security officer. Anderson has 12 years of cybersecurity experience. He has served as a vice president at Invictus International Consulting LLC since 2017, and is co-founder of Pueo Business Solutions LLC.

NBT Bank announced that Daniel Werme was promoted to senior vice president and Paula Steel was named vice president. Werme, formerly with Merchants Bank, joined NBT in 2017. Steel was a public relations, marketing, and event coordinator at Citizens Bank. •
