Fremeau Jewelers
Making Dreams Come True Since 1840
About Fremeau Jewelers:
Few heirlooms transcend time and weave a common thread through generations like family jewelry. These pieces have sentimental value far beyond their market prices. It is fitting, therefore, that a store that provides and cares for these treasured jewels has a deep family history of its own.
In 1840, when Vermont was more famous for its sheep breeders than its tourist industry, Burlington welcomed Fremeau Jewelers, one of its first fine jewelry stores. The store was established by Louis Fremeau I and passed through three generations of the Fremeau family before it was sold to Warren and Evelyn Wood in 1959.
Warren and Evelyn's son, Kent A. Wood, continues Fremeau's heritage as its chief executive officer. Fremeau Jewelers is proud to uphold a reputation of trustworthiness more than 160 years after its first customer entered the store.
Fremeau Jewelers is an accredited member of the the American Gem Society (AGS). According to the AGS, membership requires that the firm owners, principals, or employees have a high level of gemological knowledge. This is typically demonstrated by having studied at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or Gemological Association of Great Britain. In addition, the firm must hold a reputation for ethics and integrity in the business community and must be operated in a way that will enhance the confidence of the public in the jewelry industry.

CEO Kent Wood is a Certified Gemologist, a title held by less than five percent of jewelers in the United States. To earn this title, a jeweler must complete a Graduate Gemologist program at the Gemological Institute of America, accurately grade two diamonds from the American Gem Society, and complete the American Gem Society Way course. Each Certified Gemologist must also pass an annual recertification exam. Three of the six Certified Gemologists in Vermont are affiliated with Fremeau Jewelers.
