Sign*A*Rama

For the last decade, Sign*A*Rama has provided custom signage for every type of organization including corporations and sole proprietorships, schools and not-for-profits. The types of signage range from small plaques to large, lighted exterior signs, and everything in between.

History:

The Sign*A*Rama franchise was founded in 1986 by Ray and Roy Titus, in Farmingdale, N.Y. Within two years, the company was 50 stores strong. Today, there are more than 900 Sign*A*Rama franchises worldwide. In 2000, the company was named the number one sign franchise in the world by Entrepreneur Magazine and has remained in the number one spot ever since.

Tired of the corporate rat race, Bob Diaco and his wife, Paula, moved to Vermont in 1994. It was Paula’s hope that an opportunity would appear for the couple and their two children to move back to her home state. With few job opportunities for Bob — who holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology — they chose to think creatively about opportunities they could make for themselves. At a franchise trade-show, they were introduced to the Sign*A*Rama franchise and were convinced that it was a good fit for them and for Vermont.

Company Owners:

Bob and Paula Diaco are committed to producing quality signs and are invested members of the Vermont community. Over the last decade, Bob and Paula have supported various non-profit organizations through sponsorships, in-kind donations; job shadows and internships for students. Currently, they are developing co-marketing strategies with a local nonprofit who supports children in career exploration and development.

photoThey became Hall of Fame members in 2000, an award granted to the Sign*A*Rama stores who have reached their fifth anniversary in business, achieved a high level of financial success, and have given back to the corporation. The Mentor of the Year Award was presented to the couple at the July 2003 Sign*A*Rama World Expo held in Washington, DC.  This annual award is given to franchise owners who stand out among the company’s peer coaching volunteers, sharing their expertise in business management, digital computer design, and sign fabrication.  Mentors make themselves available to advise new owners on start-up methods or to assist franchisees seeking to improve or expand their services.
